Service with Courage
The sculpture by J. Payne Lara depicts a 6 ½ foot tall firefighter clothed in full bunker gear with an ax in hand and an air pack strapped to his back. Weighing approximately 650 pounds, it serves as a reminder of the dedication of every local fire department. It was originally placed at Fire Station #2 on the corner of Harvey Mitchell Parkway and Rio Grand Blvd in 2002, but was moved to its present location on November 27, 2012.
