Sister Cities Mural at Clara B. Mounce Public Library

, ,

On the west exterior brick wall of the Clara B. Mounce Public Library, facing the railroad tracks and Carnegie Alley, the Sister Cities Mural brings a brilliant splash of global connection to Historic Downtown Bryan. This vibrant public artwork uses a playful, narrative approach to celebrate international friendship, using anthropomorphic animal figures to represent Bryan-College Station and its four global sister cities—including an owl for Toruń, Poland, a jaguar for Salamanca, Mexico, a deer for Bastogne, Belgium, a crane for Griefswald, Germany and a tech-savvy blue jay sporting a maroon hoodie and a cowboy hat for Bryan. It stands as a colorful landmark for curiosity and lifelong learning, perfectly matching the library’s mission. The striking, contemporary piece was designed and painted by professional German muralist Enrico Pense (also known as Saneks), an artist ambassador hailing from one of those very sister communities: Greifswald, Germany.
