The mission of the Brazos Valley African American Museum is to explore, develop, preserve and present the cultural history and heritage of African Americans. It was built on the site of one of the original black schools in the Brazos Valley and opened its doors to the public in 2006. Run totally by volunteers, they regularly host traveling exhibits and local artists. The museum was selected to receive a FY2021 Museum Grant for African American History and Culture Award from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
